Am I free, can I be my only friend Is there peace when we rest our weary heads Too much life filled with empty promises Will we speak or is it over in the end I don't know I don't know Will it hurt under the weight of all the earth Can we see everyone we've longed to love Too much life filled with empty promises Will we touch or just never feel again I don't know I don't know Can I see Will I be okay out there on my own Can I be Will I see the joy and oblivion When I wake could it be that I'm not the only one Can it be Will I see a place we could call our own Call our own Call our own Call our own When I wake could it be that I'm not the only one Can I see Will it be the joy and oblivion I don't know

Lose Control 03:48
It's so cold when you're not home I don't know what to do Every time I let go I'm afraid I might lose control Been losing sleep with the walking dead Of all my heads they don't know how long it's been Of all the dates swimming in my mind Sand slipping fingers losing track of time It's so cold when you're not home I don't know what to do Every time I let go I'm afraid I might lose control Sorting through your pictures and my memories Never knew we'd pass by so easily Burying joy when we bury friends Don't think we'll ever find a better way Constant companions passing by our graves Losing hope when we bury friends It's so cold when you're not home I don't know what to do Every time I let go I'm afraid I might lose control We've got to, to let go Making peace with losing you There ain't no guilt in letting go We gotta live or we'll lose control We've got to, to let go Making peace with losing you There ain't no guilt in letting go We gotta live or we'll lose control We gotta live or we'll lose control We gotta live.

about

Over the course of writing and completing the track that would become Joy and Oblivion (I Don't Know) it struck me that I still had more to say. This three track EP is essentially a single followed by two afterthoughts. Where Joy and Oblivion (I Don't Know) is some type of existential ballad about what happens after we die, Lose Control is a shimmy and shake attempting to rally behind the concept of being free of an ever present grief or anxiety tied to the loss of a loved one or even the fixation on the inevitable end of ones own life. The EP is then ended with Mantra for the Faint of Heart (We're Doing Our Best), a meditation on how we need to remember to be kind to ourselves while doing this kind of existential and introspective work - as well as the often banal drudgery of life in general.

“…and, thankfully, the postman returns. That crush you had, the one that got away, their whispers still swirling in your memory. They soak into you, and you don’t want to admit that hearing them again isn’t so very welcome. Even as sad as the words can be. Michael (of Sonny, Dada, and Moloch) is that messenger, bringing and ringing truth. There are few singer/songwriters I’ve met in my day that are able to spill their guts with honesty while staying in key… for, I myself can not. Often, emotion shared can not be controlled, Michael has it dialed. Here, key is kept and so is organic, grainy, and aged storytelling. Listen to this with headphones, Michael is right there next to you. It’s sad, familiar and comforting—sometimes hopeful—and very real. All can relate, try and not play them on repeat, it’s tough to do so.”
